8 Palestinians wounded, 26 arrested in Israeli military raids in West Bank

Xinhua, February 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Eight Palestinians were wounded and 26 others arrested by Israeli security forces on Tuesday during a wide military incursion into the West Bank, Palestinians sources said.

Israeli forces raided Nablus in northern the West Bank and stormed several homes in three refugee camps in the city and a nearby village, triggering clashes with Palestinian youths, the sources told Xinhua.

Eight Palestinians were injured with rubber coated and live bullets, one of whom in critical condition, they said, adding that 13 others were arrested from Nablus.

Israeli Public Radio reported that the Israeli army seized six rifles, five pistols and other ammunition and grenades, and a lathe that is believed to be used in making arms. The radio reported that seven were arrested in relation with the arms seized.

The Islamic Hamas movement announced through its website that four of its affiliates were arrested during a military raid in Ramallah.

Palestinian sources also said that nine others were detained from different West Bank cities by Israeli forces, which also raided homes of two Palestinian prisoners near Hebron, in the south of the West Bank.

Both prisoners are accused by Israel of carrying out stabbing and shooting attacks near the Gush Etzion settlement in the south of the West Bank.

The Israeli security agency (Shabak) and Israeli army said that they foiled 17 attacks by Palestinians against Israelis.

The Israeli Public Radio said that 12 attempts to kidnap Israelis were foiled by the military forces, accusing Hamas of standing behind these attempts.

Tuesday's developments come amid a wave of violence that has broke out between Palestinians and Israel since last October, killing 181 Palestinians, according to the PNA health ministry, and 31 Israelis. Endit
