PNA calls on UN to act against Israeli settlement

Xinhua, February 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

The consensus government of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) called on UN Security Council on Tuesday to issue a resolution that stops Israeli settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The government said in emailed press statement issued at the end of its weekly cabinet meeting held in the West Bank that the international community has to act on obliging Israel to stop land confiscation and building of settlements.

"Israel doesn't stop confiscating the lands of Palestinians for building more settlements and fill it with criminal settlers," said the statement. It also called for expanding the campaign of boycotting products made in Israeli settlements.

The government welcomed the European position that opposes all settlement policies, adding "this position goes in harmony with the international law and the stable EU policy that Israeli settlement in the Palestinian territories is illegal.

However, the Palestinian government affirmed that it won't accept the international community description of settlement that it is just a provocative action, while Israel escalates its settlement activities and speeding it up.

As the government hailed the EU position towards the Israeli settlement in the Palestinian territories, it also urged Britain to annul its decision made last week related to not boycotting the products that are made in Israeli settlements.

The Palestinians had earlier welcomed an EU decision of labeling all the products that are made in the Israeli settlements. Endit
