Tokyo stocks close higher as Chinese equities lift mood

Xinhua, February 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday, reversing earlier losses as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar, coupled with a strong showing on Chinese bourses, lifted the market mood and spurred buying.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 143.88 points, or 0.90 percent, from Friday to end the day at 16,111.05.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 8.18 points, or 0.63 percent, to close at 1,300.00.

Notable advancers by the close comprised air transportation, fishery, agriculture and forestry, and food-linked stocks.

The day's turnover was 2,058.1 billion yen (18.22 billion yen). Endit
