Xinhua, February 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Brunei saw 218,213 foreign visitor arrivals in 2015, an increase of 8.6 percent over the previous year, with Chinese arrivals accounting for the most, government statistics show.

The data was released Sunday by the tourism development department of Brunei's Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.

The 8.6 percent increase was mainly attributed to the source markets including Far East region such as China and Japan, ASEAN countries, Australia as well as long haul markets such as Britain.

Travelers from China and Malaysia contributed to the majority of the market, accounting for 55.3 percent of the total foreign tourist arrivals in 2015.

Arrivals from China stood at 36 percent, while those from Malaysia at 19.3 percent.

The Far East market contributed to the highest visitor growth with 32 percent, followed by the ASEAN market at 4.7 percent. Australia, New Zealand and long haul markets each grew steadily at 1 percent, the ministry said. Endit
