Tokyo shares open sharply higher on upbeat U.S. market, oil price

Tokyo shares opened the trading Thursday sharply higher with its benchmark Nikkei stocks index briefly soaring over 3 percent on upbeat U.S. stocks market overnight and rebounding oil prices.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 455.34 points, or 2.88 percent, higher from Wednesday to 16,291.70.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 34.84 points, or 2.72 percent, to 1,317.24. Endit
