Brazil vs Uruguay World Cup qualifier will kick off at night

Xinhua, February 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

The kick-off time of a World Cup qualifying match between Brazil and Uruguay has been changed.

The match, which is scheduled for 25 March, was initially scheduled to start at 4.00pm.

However, the AUF (Uruguayan Football Association), claimed that their counterparts at the Brazilian Football Confederation had changed the time of the game outside of FIFA regulations.

World football's governing body agreed, and the contest will now kick off at 9.45pm Brazilian time, at the Arena Pernambuco in Recife.

After facing Uruguay, Brazil will take on Paraguay on 29 March in Assuncao.

The Uruguayan national side is responsible for what is considered one of the greatest sporting tragedies in Brazilian history, when they upset the 1950 World Cup hosts at the Maracana, winning the match 2-1 to lift their second, and to date last, World Cup. Enditem
