RABAT -- Eight people were killed and 30 injured, including two in serious condition, in a collision between a bus and a van near Morocco's northeastern city of Nador on Wednesday, local authorities said.

Deadly traffic accidents in Morocco are among the highest in Africa. According to data of the Moroccan Transport Ministry, a total of 3,565 people were killed in 2015 in such accidents.(Morocco-Traffic accident-Killing)

HARARE -- The European Union (EU) has renewed sanctions on Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace for another year, but the Zimbabwean ruling party dismissed the move and insisted the "illegal" sanctions must be totally removed.

The EU first imposed the sanctions on Mugabe and more than 200 senior members of his party including their business entities in 2002 after accusing Harare of human rights abuses, a charge that Mugabe denies. The EU has, however, removed most of the sanctions with the Western bloc resuming financial support to Harare last year. (EU-Zimbabwe-Sanctions)

UNITED NATIONS -- The number of civilians displaced as a result of the recent conflict in the Jebel Marra area in central Darfur of Sudan has increased from 38,000 to 73,000 people, a UN spokesman said here Wednesday.

The recent increase is largely due to a massive influx of some 30,000 civilians in Sortony, where civilians have been gathering next to a base operated by the joint African Union-UN peacekeeping mission. According to the United Nations, some 300,000 people have been killed in the fighting in Darfur since 2003 and 2.5 million others displaced.(UN-Darfur-Displacement) Endi
