The mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes announced Friday that the Rio Olympic tennis and equestrian venues will resume work after new construction companies were defined.
The city government in January cancelled the two Olympic venue's construction contracts for delays and contract breaches, raising concerns for the construction progress with less than six months ahead of the Olympics.
Rio government speeds up in finding new construction companies. Only 20 days after the cancellation, Paes said the new companies building the two venues were defined and the work has already resumed in equestrian venue.
"I was in Olympic equestrian center today. A new company has already taken and the work is fully under control," he told Brazilian news portal UOL. "Everything will be delivered in May."
In terms of Olympic tennis venue, the new contract will be signed this week. Currently the new companies responsible for equestrian and tennis venues are Zadar construction and Volume.
According to Paes, the city government will pay the new company exactly the same amount left to be paid to the former company.
Originally the iBeg was responsible for the building of the two venues. After city government cancelled its contracts, the iBeg said in a statement that delays were due to the government's alleged failure to pay for the work. Endit
