1st LD Writethru: Rivals agree in Doha on "specific practical conception" on Palestinian reconciliation

Leaders of President Mahmoud Abbas Fatah Party and Hamas movement agreed in Doha on a specific practical conception on implementing internal reconciliation, a senior Fatah official stated Monday.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian source said on Monday that the national reconciliation talks held in Doha for two days between Fatah party and Islamic Hamas movement had led to an agreement.

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, concluded to Xinhua that the understandings are in general terms, and both will return to their leaderships for final approvals and then a declaration of any agreement will be made.

Azzam el-Ahmad, chairman of Fatah delegation to the dialogue with Hamas in Doha, said "the two sides discussed in Qatar on Sunday and Monday the mechanism of implementing the internal reconciliation."

"We also deeply discussed the possibilities of resolving the obstacles that obstructed the possibilities of achieving the internal reconciliation during the previous period," said el-Ahmad.

The Fatah official said "in a fraternal atmosphere, the conferees discussed the mechanisms and the steps for putting a reconciliation agreement into effect within a timetable that we will agree upon."

On Sunday, the two sides began a dialogue in Doha on ending the internal Palestinian split that has been going on since Hamas violent takeover of the Gaza Strip in 2007. Endit
