Second group of Iraqi Christian refugees arrive in Prague

The second groups of Iraqi Christians refugees arrived in Prague on Friday afternoon.

They are four families with 17 members including nine children.

The refugees will be accommodated at the recreation facilities in Okrouhlik near Jihlava.

The Czech Republic plans to relocate a total of 153 Iraqi Christians in 2016, with groups expected to be relocated in the coming weeks.

The first group of 10 Iraqi Christian refugees arrived in the country on Jan. 24, and they have beeing living in the Okrouhlik recreation facility near Jihlava since then.

After their arrival in the Czech Republic, the Iraqis will stay in for two to three months before moving to flats in Jihlava. Around in the second half of 2016, when they are expected to gain Czech asylum, they will be able to move freely across the Czech Republic to look for jobs.

The Czech government approved the resettlement of the Iraqi Christian refugees in 2015. They have been accepted at the initiative of the Czech Generation 21 Foundation, which provides organisational and financial assistance in their relocation. Endit
