Spain's Asturias region analyzing 5 possible Zika cases

Xinhua, February 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Health services in the region of Asturias in the north of Spain on Friday said they were analyzing five possible cases of the Zika virus.

The news comes 24 hours after the Spanish Ministry of Health confirmed seven cases, including a pregnant woman, in Spain.

The ministry announced it would be publishing weekly updates on the number of cases in the country, while assuring that any new cases would almost certainly be imported from other countries as it is virtually impossible to be infected in Spain.

The five possible cases in Asturias include a man, a boy and three women, including a mother and her daughter. All five returned to the region recently after visiting Latin American countries affected by the virus.

The Asturian health authorities have taken blood samples which have been sent to the Charles III Hospital in Madrid for analysis. They insist there is little risk of contagion. Endit
