Hamas militant died in Gaza tunnel collapse

Xinhua, February 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Hamas militant was found dead on Tuesday night in a tunnel that suddenly collapsed southwest of Gaza city, the group and medics said.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said Haydar al-Zahar, 23 years old, died in an accident in central Gaza Strip, adding that his body was brought to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, al-Aqsa television, a pro-Hamas Satellite channel in Gaza, reported that a member of Hamas armed wing al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades was found dead in a tunnel that suddenly collapsed southwest of Gaza city.

Last week, seven Hamas militants were found dead in a collapsed tunnel northeast of Gaza city, not far from the border area between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

Ismail Haneya, Hamas deputy chief, admitted that the militants are digging tunnels in eastern Gaza Strip, and that "the upcoming battle will be the starting point for the liberation of Jerusalem and its holy sites." Endit
