Nigerian air force bombs Boko Haram base: military

Xinhua, February 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Tuesday said it destroyed a logistics base used by Boko Haram militants in their Sambisa forest hideout, northeast Nigeria.

NAF Spokesperson Ayodele Famuyiwa said in a statement reaching Xinhua in Lagos that the Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UAV) was on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission when it came across the gathering of Boko Haram fighters at Garin Moloma, about one kilometer north of the Sambisa forest.

He said the location had a large gathering of Boko Haram terrorists and vehicles at the time of the attack.

"The multiple explosions and huge fire ball from the location, as can be seen from the enclosed video of the UCAV strike, strongly suggests that it may be either an ammunition/fuel storage or weapons/technical workshop," he said.

According to him, the strike is a major setback for the Boko Haram Sect, and a major plus for the fight against insurgency by Nigerian troops.

The Sambisa forest, especially the mountainous region of Gwoza near the Cameroon border, was used as a shelter of the jihadist Boko Haram group, particularly during the Chibok schoolgirl kidnapping in April 2014. Endit
