Deadline day sparks late movement in Spanish transfr market

Xinhua, February 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Perhaps the biggest story of the last day of the transfer window in Spain was the deal which never happened as striker Radamel Falcao's return to the Vicente Calderon stadium, where he had enjoyed such success with Atletico Madrid never happened.

The Colombian was reported to be in the Spanish capital to negotiate the end of his unsuccessful spell on loan at Manchester United and Chelsea, but in the end the move failed to materialize.

Among the most important deals of the day was the loan agreement which saw central defender Federico Fazio return to Sevilla after an unsuccessful year and a half in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspurs.

Sevilla's attempts to sign Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev on loan were frustrated, however as the Russian finally ended up agreeing a loan deal with Valencia.

The player, whose appearance in the King's Cup against Cadiz while suspended saw Real Madrid expelled from the competition, could now theoretically make his debut against FC Barcelona in the semi-final first leg of the same competition on Wednesday night.

Right back Martin Montoya saw his short spell with Inter Milan come to an end when he agreed a loan deal with Betis until the end of the season.

Another former Barca player returning to Spain is former Barcelona and Deportivo la Coruna winger, Isaac Cuenca, who joined Granada along with French midfielder Adboulaye Dourcoure and Brazilian, Ricardo Costa.

Meanwhile Malaga signed Uruguayan, Federico Ricca and striker Ikechukwu Uche and bottom of the table Levante brought in the experienced Joan Verdu.

Among the departures were Granada' s young striker Jose Penaranda who has joined Watford (who have the same owners as Granada) and who will remain on loan in Spain until the end of the season. Endit
