Albania loses positive trend in exports

Xinhua, February 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Albanian exports fell 4.9 percent in 2015, which is seen as a clear indication of the lack of competitiveness of the economy, the Standard daily reported Monday.

Experts said that Albanian products are failing to penetrate the European markets, and that Albania is one of two countries in the region that saw exports shrink.

Ilir Ciko, an expert on trade issues, said there is a disturbing and alarming decline in exports. "All countries in the region have had a positive growth of exports, excluding Montenegro and Albania. I would like to attribute it not only to the unfavorable price conjuncture in the international markets for the products that we import and export, but also to an unsatisfactory level of economic activity within the country," he said.
