Dutch athlete dies of heart attack at Marathon in Morocco

A Dutch athlete died of heart attack on Sunday during his participation at the 27th International Marathon of Marrakech.

Amateur athlete Patrick Ahandris, 44, collapsed following a heart attack on the half-marathon race, medical sources said, adding that he received first aid on site before being carried to local hospital where he died.

An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of the death of the Dutch athlete.

Kenyan athlete Moses Gaikaria Mbugua won the International Marathon of Marrakech after crossing the finish line in a time of 2 hours 11 minutes and 41 seconds, ahead of Moroccan Bakari Khamis and Kenyan Augustine Kipkoech Ronoh.

Over 7,500 athletes took part in this year's edition which aims to raise awareness about environment protection. Endit
