1st LD: Japanese economic minister resigns over graft scandal

Akira Amari, Japanese economic minister, on Thursday offered his resignation of the post due to graft allegation.

Amari is also the minister in charge of Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks.

In his press conference on Thursday afternoon to explain the graft allegation, Amari admitted that he received cash about 1 million yen (about 8,400 U.S. dollars) in cash from a construction company, adding he instructed his secretary to properly handle the money.

The company also gave 5 million yen (about 42,000 U.S. dollars) to the minister's secretary but he failed to handle the money appropriately.

Considering the negative effects brought by the graft scandal, Amari decided to offer his willingness to quit from the post as economic and fiscal policy minister. Endit
