Corpses of two missing farmers found in N. Colombia

Xinhua, January 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Colombian authorities said on Tuesday that two farmers who were missing since Jan. 8 were found dismembered in a rural area in the northern part of the country.

The bodies were allegedly discovered in northern Antioquia Department in the midst of a battle between the rebel group the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the "Clan Usaga" criminal gang, local media reported.

One of the victims was identified, while the identity of the other has not yet been confirmed because of the body's condition, a brigade army commander Oscar Leonel Murillo Diaz told local radio La FM.

The son of one of the victims was seeking the whereabouts of his father with two friends when they found a body in a grave, the radio reported.

The cruel killing of the two farmers, along with the recent clashes between the ELN and the criminal gang for territory control, has forced some 500 people to flee from their homes to look for shelter in neighboring villages. Endi
