Toronto Raptors tie franchise record with 9th straight win

Xinhua, January 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Toronto Raptors won their franchise-tying ninth consecutive game in a 106-89 victory over Washington Wizards in NBA action on Tuesday night.

The nine straight wins is currently the longest streak in the league and matches the 2001-02 Raptors team that accomplished the feat from Mar. 22 to Apr. 9 2002.

With the victory, Raptors also improve to 16-6 at home and 30-15 overall on the season.

"We got to get a complete game where something is going the way we want it to go defensively and offensively," an unimpressed Raptors head coach Dwane Casey told reporters after the game in Toronto's Air Canana Centre. "The bench came in and saved us."

After scoring a season-best 51 points the game prior, Toronto's bench contributed with 37 points on the evening, including a bench-high 15 points from reserve Terrence Ross.

"Terrence's shooting, scoring and creating off the dribble is something that's really, really good to see," said Casey.

During the last five games, Ross has scored in double figures each game, averaging 14.4 points per game on 65 percent shooting from the field and 59 percent from beyond the arc.

Also performing at a high level was Raptors guard Kyle Lowry, who scored a game-high 29 points including five three-pointers in the win.

During the nine-game win streak, the All-Star starter has averaged 21.9 points, 5.9 assists, 5.3 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 3.0 three-pointers.

Despite the win streak, Casey stresses that his team maintain focus and not be caught up with the results.

"We got to continue to keep our mind on the big picture and get annoyed by doing the little things to be successful," said Casey.

Casey's squad will look to extend their win streak to double-digits for the first time in team history on Thursday when they host the New York Knicks. Endit
