Business hub Guangdong plans inter-city rail network

Xinhua, January 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

South China's Guangdong Province is planning to build a rail network offering fast connections between 10 major cities in the Pearl River Delta, a major manufacturing base.

By 2020, passengers will be able to get from any of the 10 to any of the other nine within one hour, according to a draft plan submitted to the provincial legislature's annual meeting running from Monday to Saturday.

The 10 are Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Dongguan, Qingyuan, Foshan, Jiangmen, Zhaoqing and Zhongshan.

Inter-city trains have already connected Guangzhou, Foshan and Zhuhai, and a high-speed rail line runs between Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Last month, regular helicopter trips were launched between Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai to facilitate business trips.

More than half of Guangdong's population dwell in the Pearl River Delta region. Local traffic authorities have identified inter-city rail as a more efficient means of transportation than road traffic. Endi
