Xinhua, January 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Thousands of people turned up on Monday to pay tribute to victims of Jan. 15 terrorist attacks on Splendid Hotel and Cafe Cappucinno in Ouagadouou, Burkina Faso capital.

The mourning was held at the Place of the Nation under heavy police surveillance.

"On behalf of the government and all Burkinabes, I express my condolence to the families of victims of these tragedies," Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore said.

"These attacks did not have any other aim other than sowing terror and panic, and preventing Burkina Faso's development efforts," Kabore added.

The terrorist attacks left 32 people from 11 nationalities dead and 71 others injured.

Family representative of foreign victims, Luc Pincince, who is also the Charge d'Affairs at the Canadian Embassy, condemned the attacks, terming them as "barbaric."

"Our loved had brought their expertise to help develop Burkina Faso, to share their passion and put it at the service of the most poor. They had come to make their contribution in improving the wellbeing of Burkinabes," he said, appealing for unity in the fight against terrorism. Enditem
