At least 13 Indonesian illegal immigrants drowned after their boat capsized on Tuesday in waters off Malaysia's state of Johor, according to Malaysia's state news agency.

Bernama quoted a local police chief as saying that strong winds and high waves led to the overturn of the boat.

A search-and-rescue operation was launched by the police, which involved 16 marine police personnel and seven police personnel.

The police chief said the bodies of nine women and four men were found washed up on the beach in the morning. Enditem
