Football Namibia shifts focuses to other grassroots teams

Xinhua, January 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Following Namibia's disastrous loss to Nigeria in their 2016 Jordan FIFA Women World Cup quest, the country's football governing body, Namibia Football Association (NFA) has shifted its focus to other youth teams, with emphasis on the boys under-17s and under-20s for international competitions in 2016.

Despite their heavy disappointment, the NFA Youth Football Department has not been deterred as they are now preparing the under 17 squad for the visit from teams from Germany, for a Four Nations Tournament slated for March 19-24, in Walvis Bay, Namibia, as well as for the qualification for the 2017 Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations to be hosted by Madagascar.

Jakes Amaning, NFA Youth Football Coordinator said, with the upcoming tournament, the idea is to try and expand their net and find the best players in the country for the future.

Meanwhile, the draw for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) U-17 Cup of Nations Qualifiers will be announced in due course by CAF.

While, for the Namibia's under-20s, Gerald Gunter is still entrusted with the team and will have to see Namibia through to the Zambia 2017 CAF Youth Championships. Enditem
