Palestinian twin sisters arrested for "plotting bomb attacks": Israel

Xinhua, January 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Palestinian twin sisters were charged Monday with preparing explosive devices in their West Bank home and planning to carry out bombing attacks against Israelis, Israeli security forces said.

Diana and Nadia Hawilah, from a village in the Tulkarem area in the northern West Bank, were arrested in late January, Israel's Shin Bet security service said, adding that "weapons and materials meant for building homemade explosive devices" were found concealed in the 18-year-old sisters' home.

Diana bought fertilizers for making homemade explosives and watched online video tutorial to build them. Nadia helped her with concealing the weapons in their home, the Shin Bet said.

The arrest came amidst a four-month-long Palestinian uprising, including stabbing, car-ramming, and shooting attacks, which has claimed the lives of 24 Israelis and a U.S. citizen. At least 150 Palestinians have been killed during this period, some in clashes with Israeli security forces during protests, while more than half were alleged attackers who were shot down at the scene of the attacks.
