Botafogo make offer for Chilean striker

Xinhua, January 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two-time Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo are in talks with Universidad de Chile to sign former Chile international striker Gustavo Canales.

Botafogo president Carlos Eduardo Pereira confirmed an offer had been sent to the Santiago based club on Friday.

"I have to be confident but we'll wait and see," Pereira was quoted as saying by Brazil's Globoesporte portal.

Canales has scored 32 goals in 47 appearances since embarking on his second spell with Universidad de Chile in 2014.

The 33-year-old, who is contracted to La U until 2017, has been capped once for Chile's national team.

Botafogo will return to Brazil's Serie A this year after winning the 2015 Serie B title. Endit
