Tunisia announces nationwide curfew after protests

Xinhua, January 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tunisia announced on Friday a nighttime curfew across the country after days of nationwide anti-unemployment protests, the interior ministry said.

"In light of the events witnessed by the country and following the looting and vandalism events against public and private property in several regions, this could harm the public's interest," the interior ministry said in a statement, adding that the curfew would be imposed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting on Friday.

Protesters attacked police posts and torched security cars in Tunis, the north-western city of Jendouba and the northern province of Kairouna late Thursday, the ministry said. Endit
