Indian police have arrested 14 suspected Islamic State (IS) supporters or sympathizers in a nationwide crackdown on terror suspects, said local TV channel Times Now Friday.

Six people suspected to have links with IS were arrested in the southern state of Karnataka while one was nabbed in Mumbai as suspected "IS recruiter," said the report.

Arrests were also made in two other states while the police operation is still going on, said the report.

Six youths, including four from the IT hub Bangalore, have been arrested in Karnataka for alleged links with the Islamic State, the Karnataka state Home Minister G. Parameshwara said.

"Four people were arrested in Bangalore and one each in Mangaluru and Tumakuru," he told the media.

Huge quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered and seized from the rented house of two of the suspects, said Indo-Asian News Service.

The news service quoted informed sources as saying raids were conducted on a tip off that IS sympathizers were planning bomb attacks on Republic Day on Jan. 26. Enditem
