Bottlenecks in intelligent manufacturing persist in legal, data security fields: expert

Xinhua, January 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Concerns and bottlenecks relating to the ongoing development of intelligent manufacturing are less on the technology side, but more on the legal side as well as security and data privacy, member of the executive board of leading German software firm SAP Bernd Leukert said in an interview on Thursday.

"Customers cannot afford to have uncertainty on who owns rights to data," Leukert said. So governments should deliver strong political guidance as to eliminate concerns and uncertainties.

Such a move would also give enterprises huge opportunities to build new business models, and certain layers in value chain would be completely eliminated, Leukert said on the sideline of the World Economic Forum.

"This might as well lead to fewer boundaries between industries," he added, saying there would be healthy competition between industry players.

Leukert, also a member of Industry 4.0 Platform founded by the federal government of Germany, joined the German software giant SAP around 20 years ago. He then held various management positions in application development, technology development and software engineering.

The annual meeting of World Economic Forum this year was held under the theme: "Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution." Enditem
