Former KMT vice chairman to bid for party chair

Hau Lung-bin, a former vice chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT), told press on Thursday that he would run for the party's top position, the second candidate to throw his hat into the ring.

Hau said the KMT lost the recent leadership election mainly due to gaps in perception, value and action, as well as its failure to understand people's demands and social reality.

The KMT should not wait any longer, and the future leader must bridge the gaps to win back the people, he said.

Former chairman Eric Chu resigned after his electoral defeat last week. Hau also stepped down from his post after losing his bid for a legislative seat in last week's election.

The KMT announced Wednesday that it will choose a new leader on March 26.

Deputy speaker of the island legislature Hung Hsiu-chu on Wednesday became the first to announce that she would run for the post. Endi
