Xinhua, January 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Chinese President Xi Jinping said here Thursday that the Palestinian issue should not be marginalized, vowing support to the Middle East peace process.

Xi made the remarks while delivering a speech at the Arab League headquarters.

He said the Palestinian issue should not fall into oblivion as it is of fundamental importance to peace in the Middle East, adding that to bring an end to the conflict, the international community should not only promote the resumption of the talks and implementation of the agreements, but also uphold fairness and justice.

The Chinese president also said that Beijing firmly supports the Middle East peace process, the establishment of a state of Palestine with full sovereignty on the basis of the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.

"We are in favor of putting in place a new mechanism to promote peace as to the Middle East question, and support efforts made by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation toward this end," he said.

To improve the well-being of the Palestinians, Beijing will provide 50 million RMB (7.53 million U.S. dollars) of grant to the Palestinian side and support the solar power station project in its territories, he added. Endi
