Darth Vader mask sold in Switzerland poses fire risk to children

Xinhua, January 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) recommended Thursday children avoid wearing the "Star Wars Darth Vader" costume sold by the company World of Party because of the potential fire hazard posed by the outfit's mask.

While also including a jumpsuit, cape, belt and lightsabre, FSVO explained that the mask can easily catch fire and cause burns to the child if it is worn close to an open flame.

So as to avoid any potential risks and guarantee the safety of children, FSVO urged concerned populations not to wear the world-famous Darth Vader mask.

This decision follows reports informing FSVO of the danger associated with the mask which covers the child's head, after flammability norms applicable to toys were found not to be respected.

FSVO said that the distributor World of Party immediately proceeded to remove the product from the market in shops located in Zunzgen, Amriswil, Worb, Dierikon, and Payerne. Enditem
