1st LD Writethru: Blast kills soldier, wounds another in Afghan southern Zabul province

One soldier was killed and another sustained injuries as a bomb went off in Shahjoi district of the southern Zabul province with Qalat as its capital 340 km south of Kabul on Thursday, provincial police chief, Mir Wais Norzai said.

"A bomb was planted by militants on a road to target security personnel but the device was discovered and bomb squad of national army reached the area to defuse it but the device suddenly exploded at 11:15 a.m. local time killing one soldier on the spot and injuring another," Norzai told Xinhua.

Taliban militants who have speeded up activities are yet to claim responsibility for planting the roadside bomb.

A suicide car bomb in Kabul on Wednesday evening for which Taliban outfit claimed responsibility, claimed seven lives and injured 25 others, all civilians. Endit
