Tokyo shares plunge to fresh 15-month low on weak oil price

Tokyo shares erased morning's gains and dived sharply lower on Thursday as sentiment here was hit by continued declines in oil prices, with the market hitting a fresh 15-month low.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 398.93 points, or 2.43 percent, from Wednesday at 16,017.26.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange shed 37.48 points, or 2.80 percent, to 1,301.49.

All session in the main board lost ground, with financing business, real estate and foods leading the declines.

The day's turnover was about 3,084.6 billion yen (about 26.38 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
