(Recast) Roundup: Attack on media outlet in Kabul draws wide condemnation

A suicide car bomb against the bus of the employees of Tolo television channel in Kabul on Wednesday evening, for which Taliban outfit claimed of responsibility, has drawn wide condemnation.

In the deadly attack, according to Kabul police chief, Abdul Rahman Rahimi, seven civilians, including two women, died on the spot and 25 others sustained injuries.

"The coward attack against journalists is an act of terrorism against the people of Afghanistan and deserves all kind of condemnation," acting defense minister Mohammad Masoom Stanikzai said on Thursday after visiting the victims in a local hospital.

Blaming the "enemies of Afghanistan" for the deadly attack, Stanikzai stated that Afghans with "unity" could defeat the enemies.

The private Tolo television channel is one of the popular television network in Afghanistan.

Earlier on Wednesday night, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani who is in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum Meeting, denounced the bloody attack as a coward terrorist once and vowed that Afghan government won't talk to terrorist groups who are killing the innocent people of Afghanistan.

President Ghani also ordered concerned security entities to bring to justice all those involved in the heinous crime.

Afghan government's Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah also visited the hospital and enquired about the health of the injured media men.

Abdullah also condemned the attack on journalists in its strongest term.

Joining the condemnation, the former Afghan president Hamid Karzai also in a statement released here by his office, termed the attack against the employees of Tolo television as attack against freedom of press and strongly denounced it.

People from all walks of life, including provincial governors and police chiefs by issuing statements and sending messages have condemned the deadly attack and expressed indignation at the Taliban outfit, besides expressing sympathy with Tolo television and the families of the victims. Enditem
