1st LD Writethru: Indian border guards kill suspected Pakistani intruder

Xinhua, January 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indian border guards gunned down a suspected Pakistani militant near the international border in the northern state of Punjab early Thursday morning, sources said.

The suspected Pakistani militant was part of a three-member group that was trying to sneak into the country from across the border in the state's Pathankot town, the sources said.

"The Border Security Force spotted the trio at 6 a.m. (local time) trying to enter India from Pakistan under the garb of heavy fog," they said.

"When challenged, the three suspected terrorists started running. The border guards opened fire, killing one on the spot," the sources added.

A massive manhunt has been launched in the area in search of any other suspected terrorists who might have entered this country from Pakistan.

Pathankot has been on alert since a terror attack by six suspected Pakistani militants on an air base earlier this month, in which seven Indian security personnel lost their lives. Endit
