Brazil center-back Gil joins Shandong Luneng

Xinhua, January 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Centre-back Gil has became the fifth Brazil international to sign with a Chinese club in the past month after accepting an offer from Shandong Luneng on Monday.

Brazilian outfit Corinthians accepted a transfer fee of 10 million euros, one million of which will be paid to France's Valenciennes, who own 10% of the player's economic rights, Globoesporte reported.

Gil will earn a monthly salary of 375,000 US dollars at his new club, who are coached by former Brazil manager Mano Menezes.

The 28-year-old joins Jadson (Tiajin Quanjian), Luis Fabiano (Tiajin Quanjian), Renato August (Beijing Guoan) and Ralf (Beijing Guoan) as former Selecao players to have moved to China in recent weeks.

All except for Luis Fabiano were signed from Corinthians, who have seen their 2015 Brazilian Serie A championship-winning team disintegrate.

The Sao Paulo-based outfit have also lost former Brazil striker Vagner Love to Monaco and centre-back Edu Dracena to Palmeiras.

Gil has been capped five times for Brazil since making his international debut in 2014. Endit
