2 policemen killed, 10 injured in PKK attack in Turkey

Two police officers were killed and 10 others wounded when members of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) attacked an armored police bus in the southeastern province of Sirnak on Monday, private Dogan news agency reported.

A group of PKK militants attacked the police bus with rockets at night in the Yeni neighborhood of Sirnak province, according to the report.

The PKK members attacked a police bus with rockets, killing two policemen and wounding 10 others, a statement released by the Sirnak Governor's Office said.

A large-scale operation was launched in the province to capture attackers, the statement added.

The PKK negotiated a cease-fire with the government in 2013, but the truce fell apart in the wake of a suicide bomb attack in the border town of Suruc in Sanliurfa Province last July leaving 34 pro-Kurdish and left-wing activists dead.

The PKK, which has claimed the lives of over 40,000 people, is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
