Update: Syria rocket hit Turkish school, 1 killed

One person was killed and the other wounded Monday as rocket projectile "predicted" fired from Syria hit a schoolyard in the southeastern Kilis province of Turkey, the Office of Kilis Governor said in a written statement.

A total of three rockets were fired and two landed in empty areas, but one hit the school garden, said the statement, adding that one employee of the school was killed and one student injured.

Turkish army responded with fire against targets in Syrian side of the border, local NTV broadcaster quoted anonymous military sources.

According to earlier media report, at least four students were wounded the explosion in the school.

Private Dogan News Agency said that the explosion was caused by mortar shell, adding that ambulances were reportedly dispatched to the scene.

The school and the vehicles around were damaged, said the report.

Turkey has been subject to several attacks by the Islamic State (IS) group recently. At least nine German tourists were killed and 17 others people injured on Jan. 12 in a suicide bombing that hit Istanbul's historic Sultanahmet Square.

Last week, Turkish army launched some 500 artillery fire and mortar fires both from Turkish territory into Syria and from Basgiqa military camp in northern Iraq to IS targets across its southeastern border, killing about 200 IS members. Endit
