Indian PM becomes 2nd most followed in India on Twitter

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now the second-most followed Indian on micro-blogging site Twitter, said local media Sunday.

Modi currently is followed by 17,371,600 people and he is just behind legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan who has close to 18.9 million followers on Twitter, said local TV channel NDTV.

In fact, the Indian prime minister's online followers have been increasing by nearly a million every two months.

Modi, who joined Twitter in 2009, is also the most followed politician in India, and the second- most followed politician in the world, after U.S. President Barack Obama, the report said.

Modi has used Twitter for initiatives like Make In India, Swach Bhara (Clean up India), Mann Ki Baat (radio address) and Sefie With Daughter to reach and connect with the citizens. Endit
