Xinhua, January 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least three people were killed and 15 others wounded after a suicide bombing rocked near the house of a tribal elder in eastern Afghan town of Jalalabad on Sunday morning, sources said.

"The initial information showed that the blast occurred near the house of Abidullah Shinwari at around 10:40 a.m. local time in third police district of the city. So far, we have no more details, but we will try to get more information," a security source told Xinhua.

Attaullah Khogyani, provincial government spokesman, when approached by Xinhua, said the blast claimed three lives, including the bomber and injured 15 others.

Government troops cordoned off the area shortly after the blast, keeping people from gathering at the scene.

The casualties were shifted into different hospitals by ambulances and police vehicles in the city, capital of eastern Nangarhar province, the source added.

Unofficial sources said Shinwari and several of his security guards were among the injured.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The Taliban militant group has intensified attacks across the country since the start of this year, which coincides with the potential resumption of government-Taliban peace talks. Enditem
