Gun rings busted in south China

Xinhua, January 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, have arrested nine people for allegedly manufacturing and selling guns without a license.

Four underground gun factories were also busted in the series of raids, the police announced on Sunday.

They seized seven of the suspects in a December swoop in Nanning's Binyang County, when some of them were making the guns while others were packing them at local parcel delivery sites. In another raid, two other suspects were caught assembling guns from components they had bought online.

Nanning police have busted eight gun-dealing rings and four violent gangs since launching a campaign in October, with 228 suspects detained.

Manufacture and sale of guns is banned in China, and the public are not allowed to own guns. People can face up to seven years in prison if found owning a gun. Endi
