Vietnam records 1 pct population growth in 2015

Xinhua, January 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Vietnam's population has remained stable with a 1-percent rise in 2015, and yet to surpass 92 million people, said an official of Vietnamese healthcare sector on Thursday.

According to Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien, in 2015, the country's population grew at a rate of approximately 1 percent, with fertility rate of 2.1 births per woman. The low birth rate has contributed to limiting maternal and infant mortality rates.

The information was released at a meeting held by the ministry here on Thursday to review population and family planning work in 2015.

During the year, the ratio of boys to girls at birth was 113:100, representing a gender imbalance, Tien said.

Vietnam's population hit 90 million as of November 1, 2013, which brought Vietnam to the 14th in the world's large population countries at that time. Endit
