"In the past 66 years, there have been ups and downs in bilateral ties, however, friendship, cooperation and positive development are still mainstream in Vietnam-China relations," said Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh on Thursday.

Anh made the remarks at a reception held by the Chinese embassy here on Thursday to celebrate the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and Vietnam.

"Sixty-six years ago, Vietnam and China officially established diplomatic ties, marking a milestone in the long traditional friendship between the two nations and opening a new chapter of history," Anh said.

"Vietnamese party, government and people attach great importance to the consolidation and development of the friendly relations with China's party, government and people. It is hoped that the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries will achieve further development," the minister said.

Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong said the year 2015 witnessed significant development in China-Vietnam relations.

The two sides have seen frequent exchanges and visits of high-ranking leaders, reached important consensus to promote comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, which laid an important foundation for further development of relations between the two parties and states, said the ambassador.

"China and Vietnam are two close neighbors and brothers. No matter how the international situation changes, the importance of maintaining and developing the traditional friendship between the two countries is unchanged as it is in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples," Hong said.

"China will continue to join hands with the Vietnamese side to enrich the connotation of traditional friendship between China and Vietnam through the promotion of various practical cooperation," said the ambassador. Enditem
