Tokyo shares open higher on U.S. gains

Tokyo shares opened the trading Wednesday remarkably higher after a six-day decline, as sentiment here was boosted by gains on the overnight U.S. stocks market.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average surged 314.38 points, or 1.83 percent, from Tuesday to 17,533.34.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 28.33 points, or 2.02 percent, to 1,430.28. Endit
