Roundup: Israeli soldiers kill 3 Palestinians in West Bank clashes: Medics

Xinhua, January 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Israeli security forces shot dead three Palestinians during clashes in the West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said on Tuesday.

The health ministry said that two young men were shot dead at a crossroad near the Israeli settlement of Beit Anun, near Hebron in southern West Bank, a flashpoint city where many of the recent Palestinian attacks took place.

The ministry said that one of them was identified as Adnan Mashni, 17, and the other's identity is still unknown.

The Israeli army said the suspect was trying to stab an Israeli soldier at an army barrier east of Hebron. No Israeli injuries were reported in the incident.

Earlier on Tuesday, another Palestinian young man was killed by Israeli soldiers' gunfire in the town of Beit Jala, near the West bank city of Bethlehem.

The victim was 21-year-old Sorour Ahmed Sorour from the nearby Aida refugee camp. He was killed during clashes with an Israeli army force which stormed the town and clashed with dozens of Palestinian young men.

During the current wave of violence that has entered a fourth month, 23 Israelis and a U.S. Citizen died in frequent stabbing, shooting, and car-ramming attacks, while Israeli forces or armed citizens have also killed at least 155 Palestinians.

Israel has been accusing the Palestinian National Authority of "inciting" the violence, while the Palestinians say it is the result of decades of Israeli control of their lands.

Meanwhile, Palestinian security officials said that the Israeli army detained eight Palestinians all over the West Bank after raiding their homes in various towns and villages.

Israel Radio reported that among the detainees, there are suspects planning and carrying out attacks against Israel.

Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned on Tuesday the escalations and the security measures Israeli taken against the Palestinians in the West Bank and in east Jerusalem.

The ministry said in an emailed press statement that "these actions of killing and storming homes, hospitals and educational institutions are fully condemned," adding "Israel claims that it fights terrorism in the world and at the same time it practices it against our people." Endit
