Singapore condemns bomb attack in Istanbul

Xinhua, January 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Singapore strongly condemned a bomb attack in Istanbul which has resulted in heavy casualties, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Tuesday.

A MFA spokesman said Sigapore "condemns the act of terror against innocent civilians" at Sultanahmet Square, a popular tourist venue in Istanbul.

Singapore's Embassy in Ankara has contacted most of the registered Singaporeans to ascertain their safety. There are no reports of any Singaporeans who are directly affected by the explosion in Istanbul so far.

The MFA also said Singapore's Embassy was in close contact with Turkish authorities and would continue to monitor the situation closely.

At least 10 people have been killed and 15 others wounded in an explosion that hit Istanbul's historic Sultanahmet Square on Tuesday. Endit
