Uni of Malta opens Master's degree in aging, dementia studies

Xinhua, January 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

A new Master's degree in aging and dementia studies was launched on Wednesday morning by Malta's parliamentary secretary for rights of persons with disability and active aging, Dr. Justyne Caruana.

The program is being offered by the department of gerontology in the faculty for social wellbeing at the University of Malta as from February 2016.

Targeted at professionals involved in the social and health care of older persons, the degree offers an opportunity to advance careers by enhancing professional clinical practice to improve the required skills in generating and delivering better levels of care.

It's key objective is to empower professionals working in gerontological and geriatric settings to be the leaders in the future of aging and dementia care by obtaining a combination of theoretical and evidence-based practice that enables them to assume principal roles in policy design and clinical practice.

The degree also forms part of the national dementia strategy, which stressed the need for more training and more specialized people to help dementia sufferers. Endite
