The Democratic People's Republic of Korea announced Wednesday that it has successfully carried out its first hydrogen bomb test.

The "total success" of the test, which took place at 10:00 a.m. Pyongyang time (0130 GMT), meant that the DPRK has "proudly joined the advanced ranks of nuclear weapons states possessed of even H-bomb," Pyongyang said in a statement carried by the state-run KCNA. (DPRK-Nuclear Test-Hydrogen Bomb)

UNITED NATIONS -- The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will on Wednesday hold consultations on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) following its announcement of first hydrogen bomb test.

The closed-door consultations will be held at 11 a.m. (1600GMT), according to the UN spokesperson' office. (UN-DPRK)

TOKYO -- Activists fighting for rights of "comfort women" rallied Wednesday around Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's official residence demanding that the government properly handle the historical issue, rather than using money to made a deal over the country's wartime wrongdoing.

About 100 activists participated in Wednesday's protest, asking Japanese and South Korean governments to retract their newly reached agreement on the issue, saying the governments should carefully listen to the victims, and rejecting to remove the statue representing Korean "comfort women" victims located in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul. ISLAMABAD -- At least five militants were killed in an armed clash with police in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Wednesday, officials said.

BERLIN -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel's chancellery in Berlin has been sealed off for police investigations of "a suspicious mail item", as ministers gathered for a cabinet meeting in the building early on Wednesday, a police spokesman told Xinhua.
