Singapore "gravely concerned" over DPRK's hydrogen bomb test

Singapore is "gravely concerned" over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s announcement of its first hydrogen bomb test, Singapore's Foreign Affairs Ministry (MFA) said on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the China Earthquake Network Center said a 4.9-magnitude earthquake jolted the DPRK at 0130 GMT at a depth of 0 km. DPRK later announced that it has successfully carried out its first hydrogen bomb test at 10:00 a.m. Pyongyang time.

According to a statement carried by DPRK's state-run KCNA, DPRK top leader Kim Jong Un ordered the H-bomb test on Dec. 15, 2015, and signed the final written order on Sunday.

In response, MFA said in a statement that the move is "dangerous and provocative act with serious implications on the peace and stability of the region and the DPRK itself," adding that it is a clear breach of the UN Security Council resolutions and called strongly upon DPRK to desist from such actions.

"(We) reiterate our longstanding call for the DPRK to abide by its international obligations and commitments," MFA said. Endit
