Gunmen attack police in Istanbul, injuring one

Unknown gunmen attacked the police in Istanbul's busiest Beyoglu district on Wednesday, wounding one officer, Turkish media reported.

The gunmen fired at a police team on a routine patrol at the neighborhood and escaped, the Hurriyet daily said.

One officer was wounded, and an investigation was launched in the area, the report added.

Turkey is fighting against militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party in the country's southeast, while also coping with a rising scourge of terrorism. Endit
